Discover Playing Opportunities for Novice Players at Vancouver & Marpole Curling Clubs

The following is a list of leagues and programs suitable for novice curlers to join at the Vancouver and Marpole Curling Clubs for the 2025–26 season. Online registration opens June 1, 2025.

Vancouver Curling Club

Shamrock – Sunday 9:00 am

If anyone is interested in curling on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am, we are interested. We are also an open format where curlers register as individuals rather than teams. Teams are selected at the beginning of the season. Curlers’ experience and ability will be taken into consideration in assignment of positions.

Sunday Morning Open – Sunday 9:15 am

The Sunday Morning Open League is a very recreational and social league. We don't even have playoffs at the end of season, just bragging rights. Our main aim is to build on our skills and experience, meet new people and enjoy ourselves.  At the end of each game, we retire to the upstairs lounge to talk about our games and hang out for coffee, lunch etc.

We accept all adult curlers no matter what their level of expertise is, and we feel we are very welcoming to novices. People can join as individuals as well as already formed teams.  Individual players are assigned to a team.

During the season, we have two social luncheons, and to offset their costs a small membership fee is charged.

Purple & Gold - Sunday 4:30 pm

Purple & Gold is a fun league looking for some new teams to join for the 2025-26 season and has specifically invited the novice curlers to consider them as a next step out of novice league. Our focus is on fun, etiquette, and sportsmanship, though a little healthy competition is never a bad thing. Teams are strongly encouraged to socialize and enjoy the company of your opponents each week in the lounge.

Sunday Open – Sundays 6:45 pm

The Sunday Open League is a team-based league. Most teams in the Sunday Open have been part of the league for multiple years, but it is a friendly league and welcomes new teams whenever we can.

The Sunday Open League is one of the most active in the club, with many of its members currently or previously on the VCC board, playing in multiple leagues, and competing in the VCC bonspiels.

If you have any questions about the league, please feel free to contact Chris Lindeman at [email protected].

Vancouver Ladies – Monday 10:00 am

Vancouver Ladies Curling League welcomes new curlers. We are a social league that curls Monday mornings from 10 am to noon, followed by coffee and cookies in the lounge afterwards. The league establishes new teams for each fall and spring session so that we play with different folks, which helps us get to know one another and keeps the curling fresh and fair. We also have a fun bonspiel in December and a seasonal lunch and an end of season lunch to celebrate the curling season.

Monday 4:30 pm Novice (five-week programs)

Participants in our five-week novice leagues may sign up as individuals to be placed on teams, as part of a team of four or five, or as a partial team looking for one or two others. A curling instructor is on hand each week to provide help to those who need it. These leagues are suitable for people who have been through a curling clinic or program or had limited curling experience. Please do not sign up with no curling experience.

Rotary – Monday 4:30 pm

The Rotary Club of Vancouver has a history of curling, for fun and friendship, that stretches back more than 50 years. We take pride in having introduced many individuals to the sport of curling for the first time, teaching them how to curl, including them in a team and bringing them along, year after year. In short, our experienced curlers will welcome anyone who is interested in being part of a curling team; whether experienced, novice or completely new to the sport of curling.

We are a social group and many of us can be found upstairs in the VCC lounge after curling having a drink or dinner. We also host an annual bonspiel in Squamish, generally over the first weekend of November. This is not compulsory if you are in our league but just an extra bit of fun and a way to get to know others better.

Monday Novice – Monday 6:45/9:00 pm

The Monday Novice League is suitable for someone who has been through a curling clinic or program or has limited curling experience. You must be ready to make a commitment to curl all season. Participants may sign up as individuals to be placed on teams, as a complete team of four, or as a partial team looking for one or two others.

The first five weeks of the program are devoted to curling instruction, then league play begins in week six. There are 23 weeks in total. The 2025-26 season will start on Sept. 29 and run until Mar. 30.

Participants are only allowed to curl in this league for two seasons. This league is popular, and it is highly recommended you register in the first few weeks of June.

Norwesters – Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 am

The Norwesters are a group of senior curlers (over 50) that curl on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00 am till noon. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned curler, we have a spot for you. Our main aim is to have fun.

  • Post-game coffee and socializing after the Thursday games
  • Christmas and closing quarter mini spiels are followed by a catered luncheon and awards

What we offer member curlers:

  • Two eight-end games every week, Tuesday and Thursday, a total of 47 games (with a break over Christmas), starting in October and ending in March
  • 10-game draw rotations so that curlers can meet and curl with all other members during the season
  • Before and after game socializing, game-day draws and prizes
  • A full (two games per week) membership is $475 for the whole season. A half membership (one game per week, either Tuesday or Thursday) is approx. $285.
  • We have senior members who are willing to provide private instruction to new members upon request.
  • The league is a member of the Pacific Coast Masters Curling Association (PCMCA) and members are eligible to participate in all masters bonspiels throughout the Lower Mainland.

Wednesday Women’s – 10:00 am

The Wednesday Women's League is a social/somewhat competitive league. We always welcome new teams or new curlers from novice to experienced. Our league is set up as a "team of choice" for registration, but we are always open to welcoming new curlers who can either join an existing team or become a spare for the league.

We curl on Wednesday mornings from 10 am to noon. The league runs from late September to late March every season.

  • Our league plays a full round robin schedule with an end of season playoff if needed.
  • We curl eight ends within a two-hour time slot.

Point Grey – Wednesday 6:45/9:00 pm

We are an open and social league and accept all curlers with at least one year of experience.

Curlers register as individuals in the Point Grey league; team registration is not allowed. We are a fun and social league and welcome players of any skill level. We curl from late September/early October to late March/early April, on Thursdays, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Full teams are welcomed for their first year to the League if there is space. Traditionally members sign for a preferred position, and we make up new teams each season by holding a skips' draft. You do not have to be a pharmacist or a traveling sales rep to curl with us.

If you are interested in joining, contact us at [email protected].

453 City Hall – Friday 6:00 pm

The 453 League, originally started by City Hall employees 50 years ago, is a fun, social league with a mix of both experienced curlers and total neophytes. Our league can best be described as a hybrid mixed team league, each team is required to have at least one female curler in play the majority of the time. We are often looking for individual curlers to add to teams as well as full teams when spots are available. If you're interested and would like to join the 453 League as an individual or a full team then please contact us at [email protected].

B&B – Friday 8:15 pm

We encourage individuals to contact us to inquire about curling in our league or to get on our spare list. We are always keen to take names of people and teams who wish to get on the list for next year. Don't miss out on our fun-filled, social league!

We are a social league that enjoys coffee together after games and a winter and spring luncheon to celebrate our season together.

We curl two draws in the year, mid September to December and January to mid March. Teams are chosen for the fall draw and changed in the New Year to allow you to play with and get to know other members. For further information please contact Susan Pate at [email protected].
