Monday Novice

League Description:

The Monday Novice League (alternating 6:45 pm and 9:00 pm draw times) is suitable for someone who has been through a curling clinic or program or has limited curling experience. This is a fun league, as everyone in it is relatively new to curling and the Last Draw Lounge is open upstairs for socializing when your game is done.

The first five weeks of the program are devoted to curling instruction, then league play begins in week six. There are 23 weeks in total. The 2025-26 season will start on Sept. 22 and run until March.23, with no curling on Oct. 13, Dec. 22, Dec. 29, and Feb. 16.

Participants may curl in the novice league for only two seasons, then they are asked to move on to other Vancouver Curling Club leagues to make room for other new curlers in the league.

League Rules:

 - The league follows the General Rules of Play as published by Curling Canada with the exception that VCC is NOT using the 'No Tick Rule'.

- The bell will sound when there is 25 minutes left in game play which generally means you finish the current end and play one more. Let's all be sure we are watching the clock and trying to keep game play moving along steadily. Please respect the schedule and clear your sheet by the end of our scheduled ice time (8:45 PM for early draw and 11:00 PM for the late draw).

- All teams can bring in spares to play when they are down players, spares should always take on lead or second positions. To respect the novice league level of play we do not want to see teams bringing in advanced players to skip their teams. Spares need to be registered as a member with VCC or will need to sign a Guest Waiver. Talk to the staff at the Member Services desk if you need help with this.

League Resources:

League resources, such as our spares list and etiquette guide, can be found here. Any documents that get sent out will be saved here.

For spares we also have a whatsapp chat group that you can join through this link that we set up last season. It is still pretty active so we're going to keep that going.  If you can't access it and would like to be invited to join please contact the league through This email address is being protected from spambots. Draw Schedule:

The league has been split into two groups, 8 teams each, and we have a round robin schedule for 7 weeks of games thru November to the Demember break. A printed copy of the draws will be posted on the bulletin boards, at the end of each draw please record your game results. The score splits and win/loss records will be used to move teams into new groups for the next round robin starting in Janaury. We may structure things different and have smaller groups and a shorter round robin then but we will figure that out once we have a better understanding of everyone's skill level in relation to each other.
