Men Win Bronze at Lower Mainland Travelers Club Challenge Playdowns
The men's team consisting of Jeff Guignard (Skip), Brock Tully (Third), Dustin Koch (Second), Nick Kuit (Lead), and Ron McKay (Alternate) won their first two games on Friday against Port Moody (9-3) and Langley (9-2). They suffered a loss to Delta Thistle (8-5) on Saturday morning, however if they win against Tunnel Town at 4:30pm they will make it into the Semis.
In an exciting tie breaker 9-8 Team Tully won its way into the Dominion semi-finals. They're playing the home club Richmond team. Behind 6-2 after end 4, took 3 on a flash by the opposition skip and drew for the 3rd point. They then stole 1 to claw their way back. Delta took 2 and Vancouver took 2. 8-8 going into the last end without hammer. Jeff Guignard guarded a centre line rock in the 8 foot. Opposition skip peeled. Jeff tapped 8 foot rock into top 4 foot. Delta skip called draw but was heavy. That's the story. Team Tully at 11.
On Sunday they played Richmond, the home club and suffered a loss that sent them to the Bronze medal game. The top 3 teams proceed to the Pacific International Cup (PIC). Team Tully came out on top against Cloverdale to secure the bronze and the berth to the PIC. CONGRATULATIONS TEAM TULLY!
The Women's team consisting of Shelley Birston (Skip), Allison Dendoom (Third) Siobhan Robinson (Second), and Krista Frazee (Lead) unfortunately lost their third and final game at the same time this article was published. On Friday they beat Delta Thistle (8-0) and on Saturday were victorious against Tunnel Town (9-2), however fell to Coquitlam on Saturday afternoon.
