VCC team heads to Senior Provincials

A team from the Vancouver Curling Club will be competing in the Tim Horton’s BC Senior Women’s Curling Championship in Kamloops. Team Miller - skipped by Karen Miller – is one of eight teams vying for the provincial title from Feb. 21 to 27.

Pictured left to right, Miller, Beckie Ross (third), Dianne Petrant (second) and Kathy McInnes (lead) only formed as a team just one month before the coastal playdowns. Miller, Ross and McInnes are from the Tuesday Women’s League, and Petrant plays in the Thursday Open.

Team Miller

The Miller team earned a berth in the provincial event by winning the coastal playdown event in January. But going undefeated and topping the standings at that event was a stunner, according to Miller. “Curling is truly a team sport and everyone has to make split second decisions and work together,” she says. “For us, we made a lot of good decisions and I think, as a team, we flew under the radar of the other teams.”

Ross says playing entering the seniors’ event wasn’t even a consideration for her until Miller asked her to take part in the first week of December.

Petrant says they were the unknown team. “Karen called four fantastic games. All we had to do is make the shots. It’s still hard to believe that our team experience is a total of four games.”

McInnes said she and Dianne just kept saying “one end at a time, sweet curlers,” to keep their nerves in check.

A big congratulations to Karen, Beckie, Dianne and Kathy who will be great Vancouver Curling Club ambassadors at the provincials in Kamloops.
