Competition Corner - October 2014

Welcome to Competition Corner, a new feature on our website in which we highlight achievements of VCC members in events outside of VCC bonspiels in the prior month. One of the goals of the Club's Board of Directors when planning for the move to the VCC's post-Olympic home was to support competitive curling with the hope that the VCC would once again become home to some of the best curlers in the Province.

Over the last four years we have had VCC members participate in, and win, regional, national and provincial events. At the VCC we believe it is important to celebrate not just the successes, but all our members' efforts. We established this year so that members can let the Club know when they are playing outside the VCC.

Congratulations to VCC members Richard Brower (Skip), Jan Bos (Third) and Deryk Brower (Lead) who teamed with Cameron De Jong (Second) from Victoria to win the Fall Guy's Bonspiel at the Cloverdale Curling Club held October 8 – 9, 2014. Team Brower took one in the seventh and stole one in the eighth to win the final 6-4.

From October 17 to 20, 2014, eight members of the Club participated in the Kamloops Crown of Curling World Curling Tour event. The event was very competitive with 18 teams from as far as Korea and Japan participating. Former provincial and national Scotties winners were in attendance. Team Gibson (Fourth – Marilou Richter, Skip – Amy Gibson, Second – Rebecca Turley and Lead – Michelle Dunn) went 1-3 at the event, their first in a busy schedule in their attempt to return to the BC Scotties in 2015. Team Ocean Village (Skip – Diane Gushulak, Third – Grace MacInnes, Second – Lorelle Weiss and Lead – Sandra Comadina) finished up 2-3, also out of the playoffs.

When possible, we will provide updates via Facebook ( and Twitter (@vancurling) during events. We encourage all our members to support VCC curlers at all events by following the Club on social media. If you are curling in an event, please contact
