Competition Corner - November 2014
Competition Corner (November 2014) - Update
We have a couple of corrections and a couple of editions to the jam-packed November edition of Competition Corner.
November was a great month for VCC members in competitive events as bonspiel season hit full stride and results keep pouring in. We have a lot to report from mixed, women’s, and men’s events so we will jump right to it.
Team Forrest had a successful month winning the Marpole Mixed Bonspiel, the B Event at the Peace Arch Mixed Bonspiel and the C Event at the Tunnel Town Mixed Bonspiel with a come from behind three in the eighth. Team Forrest consists of Andrew Forrest, Allison DenToom, Dave Marchant and Becky Campbell. Krista Frazee was subbed in for Becky Campbell at the Peace Arch ‘spiel.
Andrew Forrest also skips a men’s team that played in the Coronation Classic in Maple Ridge. While they had a big extra end win against Sean Geall the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.
VCC colours were in full force at the Tunnel Town Mixed Bonspiel as Team Robinson (Mark and Siobhan Robinson, Heather Lawrence, Craig Coyne) had a great run making it all the way to the A final where they had a pick in the second end which led to a steal of four for their opponents and left them chasing the rest of the game. The team was very proud to take a “solid silver”.
Continuing with their busy bonspiel schedule Team Gibson (Marilou Richter, Amy Gibson, Rebecca Turley, Michelle Dunn) came oh so close to qualifying for the BC Scotties, rattling off three straight wins before falling short by one in the last end of the C final at the Provincial Playdowns in Kelowna. The team also had a successful runs at the Vancouver Island Shoot Out making it all the way to the semifinals in a competitive field and a sixth place finish at the Coronation Classic in Maple Ridge.
Team Ocean Village (Diane Gushulak, Grace MacInnes, Lorelle Weiss, Sandra Comadina) kicked off their bonspiel schedule at the Vancouver Island Shoot Out, the first of five world curling tour events the team is playing in this season, where they took home second place.
VCC men had a strong showing at the North Delta Men's Bonspiel with Team Schneider taking home the A Event and Team Brower taking the B Event with a win over Team Forrest.
A number of VCC men’s teams competed at the Golden Ears Curling Club at the start of the month, all of them picking up valuable points on the Region 11 Men's Tour. Team Brower (Jan Bos and Richard Brower) took home the C Event. Team Schneider and Team Forrest had great runs losing in the A final and B semifinal, respectively.
Congratulations to all of the above members and those who competed but who have yet to let the Club know when they are playing.
