Junior Development
Welcome to the home page for the Junior Development Program!
The Junior Program is the place for our younger curlers to learn the game, develop curling skills, and simply have a lot of fun. Please contact Brad Burton if you have any questions.
Program Goals:The primary goal of this program is to instill in our younger players the interest and desire to learn the game of curling in a fun and challenging environment.
To do this, we will focus on skill development such as The Delivery, Sweeping Technique, The Turns (in turn, out turn), Line of Delivery, Weight Judging (sweepers), How to Call a Game, Strategy, Terms of the Game, Communication and Teamwork. Most sessions will be on the ice. Some sessions, like Strategy, will be off ice and will then go on ice for a game.
Program Dates:The 2010-2011 Junior Development Program begins in October and the season's dates are as follows:October 9, 16, 23, 30November 20, 27December 4, 11, 18January 8, 15, 22February 5, 19, 26March 12, 19April 2
What to Wear? Please wear sweatpants or loose fitting pants that won’t restrict your movement on the ice. It can be cold, so wear layers and bring a toque, gloves or mittens. For footwear, please wear runners with a rubberlike sole (not plastic), and make sure the bottoms are clean and free of all dirt and stones. If possible, dedicate a pair of runners for curling use only. Wear your street shoes to the club, then change into your curling shoes.
Program Coaches:The VCC's Junior Development Program will be run by a number of certified coaches and assistants. They all look forward to a fun year filled with laughter and skill improvement throughout the entire season.

(Sept 7, 2010) Please note the VCC Junior Development Program was strongly supported in the past by funding from the Province of BC's Gaming Program. Unfortunately, our funds for 2009-2010 season were reduced to only 25% of the past few years' funding. We recently received confirmation of our funding from the province for the 2010-2011 season for our junior program and it is approximately the same as 2009-2010. The VCC, though, is still committed to our Junior Development Program, and we thank all of the interested parents and young curlers for your continued participation in the program.
