The start of the 2010 Winter Games is just under one month away, and the Vancouver Curling Club has recently finalized a couple of outstanding agreements so the plans to welcome the world to the VCC and provide unique opportunities for our members to experience world-class curling are now available.
Please click here to learn more about the activities planned for the VCC in February 2010. The club will certainly be a buzz with curling action on the ice and on the screens in the lounge, and all of the funds raised will be contributed to the club's Capital Development Fund.
Now that the new year is upon us, the staff and board at the VCC wish to extend Happy New Year wishes to all of our members and our friends.
The club is now open again after our holiday break, and we have a full month of curling ahead of us before our league hiatus begins on February 8th.
Be sure to check back here soon and to read the upcoming issue of “The Backline” for complete details on the club’s plans during the league hiatus from February 8th to March 2nd. We have some very interesting activities in the works for both on and off the ice.
Happy New Year!
The first day of qualifying took place on Saturday, November 21st to determine the VCC men's and women's teams to represent the club at the Lower Mainland division of the Dominion Curling Club Championships of British Columbia.
The women's reprsentative has been determined and Team Inglis will represent the VCC. The team is made up of skip Sharon Inglis, third Sharon Carefoot, second Pat Upper, lead Debby Volbrecht and fifth Dianne Petrant.
The VCC's Sandra Schmirler Day took place on Saturday, November 21st, and club members and community members alike came on down to the Vancouver Curling Club to celebrate the sport of curling.
The day was a busy one that had the club's Junior program taking place, the start of the VCC Playdowns for the Dominion Club Challenge, teams from the Blind League playing an exhibition game, community members 'having a go' on the ice and a number of club members who took advantage of the open ice to practice their skills.
The The Recession’s Not Quite Over Bonspiel! wrapped up play this past Sunday. Thank you to all of the participating teams, and to the organizing committee led by Dan May.

A number of members have been enquiring about what, if any, open ice time will be available. Now that all of our leagues are up and running, we are happy to announce this season's Open Ice times for members to come to the club and practice.
The times and sheets available will always be shown online (right-hand column of the homepage) and on the sign inside the club - just to the right of the front door when you are leaving. And Please note these times are subject to change as a result of any rentals that may occur and/or staff availability.
We look forward to having you come on out and practice when you can.
NOVICE LEAGUE... A quick reminder to all curlers who had expressed an interest in participating in the club's novice league that play begins this coming Sunday, Sept 27th.
Due to the recent collapse of the manager's harddrive (Sept 11), all of the emails to the manager from before that date have unfortunately been lost. So please be sure to confirm your registration with the club manager either via email or phone.
JUNIOR PROGRAM... The Vancouver Curling Club Junior Development Program is back, but in a new time slot on Saturday mornings. We'd like to welcome everyone who participated last year and everyone who'd like to try out curling for the first time.
First day of the Junior Program is Saturday, October 3 and you can please click here for more details.
The 2009-2010 season is now one week old, and the first spiel is already in the books at the VCC. Congratulations to Aaron Thompson and Jack Holmes - the Season-Opening Doubles Spiel champions.
Aaron and Jack went undefeated throughout both round-robin play and the playoffs to capture their title. In the final, they defeated the only other team who had gone undefeated to that point - Brady & Kristin Clark, from the Granite Curling Club in Seattle.
A new season at the VCC is bringing some new changes, including a revised club website. The new vancouvercurlingclub.com is now online and live!
The intent of this site is to be the main source of information for all of our members. The new site has a number of changes to the site's back-end technology and it allows for a number new features. Some of these features include online registration for events, a more robust calendar of events, online rental request forms, more capabilities for league reps to help manage the club's leagues, and much more.
The club's annual pre-season Open House took place this past Sunday, Sept 6th. So thank you to everyone who came out.
Everyone was welcome -- club members, friends, family and neighbours of members, plus any interested community member -- to come on down to the Vancouver Curling Club.
