The Skins Needs a New Charity

Each year the VCC holds the Barry Naimark Annual Skins Bonspiel . This is a fun event which allows curlers to try a different format and to contribute to a local charity.

The goal of the Club is to find a charity where a $2,000 - $4,000 donation can really make a difference, and now is your chance to submit the name of a worthy charity.

2011 Charity Skins is a Great Success

The 2011 Barry Naimark Charity Skins took over the VCC from March 3-6, and a fantastic time was had by all who spent their weekend at the club to enjoy some great curling, fun times in the Last Draw Lounge and do it all while raising funds for the Talitha Koum House.

The bonspiel organizing committee are in the midst of doing their final tasks to finish off the event so we do not yet have a final tally on the funds raised. But early indications are that this year's event will come close to the previous event fundraising record of approx $3,300.

Team Miller Captures Silver Medal

Congratulations to Team Miller on their silver medal finish at the Tim Horton's BC Senior Women's Curling Championship. Competing in Kamloops from February 22-26 against the top women's teams aged 50 and over from across the province, Team Miller came oh so close to capturing the provincial crown.

After four days of round-robin play, Team Miller - who is skip Karen Miller, third Beckie Ross, second Dianne Petrant and lead Kathy McInnes - finished in a tie for third-place. This meant that the team had a long road in front of them if they wanted to make the final. But they were undeterred.

Special Update on Ice Conditions

Email message below was distributed by the VCC President on Feb. 16...

Many members have noticed that our Club’s ice situation seems to be worse than in the past, and you would be correct if you thought so. You should, however, also know that our Club’s staff have been working extremely hard since December to try to mitigate the problems.

I have outlined below a summary of what the issue is and the steps that the club has been taking to rectify the situation. The Board has been monitoring the state of affairs and we have sought external advice. Over the past month, as the ice has deteriorated, members have been growing increasingly frustrated. Any member with an issue regarding the ice is free to contact me directly at president@vancouvercurlingclub.com.

A team from the Vancouver Curling Club will be competing in the Tim Horton’s BC Senior Women’s Curling Championship in Kamloops. Team Miller - skipped by Karen Miller – is one of eight teams vying for the provincial title from Feb. 21 to 27.

Pictured left to right, Miller, Beckie Ross (third), Dianne Petrant (second) and Kathy McInnes (lead) only formed as a team just one month before the coastal playdowns. Miller, Ross and McInnes are from the Tuesday Women’s League, and Petrant plays in the Thursday Open.

Eight-Ender at the VCC

The Vancouver Curling Club is thrilled to announce that an Eight-Ender was accomplished by Team Rose of the B&B League!

Team Rose recently scored an eight-ender in the first end of their game. The team is actually becoming adept at achieving this rare feat as they previously scored an eight-ender approximately 12 years ago at the VCC with the exact same foursome.
