VCC curlers finish second and third at BC Scotties

Congrats to VCC curlers Sandra Comadina and Lindsay Hudyma for their strong showings at the BC Scotties in Duncan. Lindsay skipped her team to a second place finish in the round robin with a 5-2 record. Comadina, who plays lead for the Diane Gushulak team that was 4-3 in the round robin, got through a tiebreaker, the quarter-final, and a semi-final win Hudyma, but ended up losing the final to the Marla Mallett team that lost only one game all week.

Six VCC curlers qualify for BC men's final

Two teams with VCC curlers have made it through qualifying at the Lower Mainland regional playdown in Maple Ridge, Dec. 10-12, and will be competing in the belairdirect BC Men's Curling Championship. The Jeff Guignard team of VCC curlers (Chris Faa, Jeff Sargent and Nick Kuit) will be in Abbotsford, Feb. 8-12, along with Richard Brower and Jan Bos, fourth rock thrower and third respectively on the Mike Moss team out of Richmond.

Hudyma qualifies for BC Scotties

Congratulations to VCC curler Lindsay Hudyma, who has skipped a team into this year's BC Scotties in Duncan, Jan. 17-22. Hudyma, along with Victoria team mates Holly Donaldson, Stephanie Jackson-Baier and Carley Sandwith won a qualifying game in Vernon with a last-end steal against Royal City's Diane Gushulak rink that includes Sandra Comadina from VCC.

Congratulations to VCC curler and part-time ice technician Marcio Cerquinho, who will represent Brazil at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Lethbridge, April 22-29. Marcio and doubles partner Anne Shibuya won the Brazilian playoff held at VCC, Nov. 18-26.

Balance is the key in your delivery

I’ve taught curling to countless groups and individuals over the years since I first started working in curling at the old Vancouver Curling Club in 1993. It’s been my observation from both teaching the fundamentals and working on my own game in preparation for competition that balance is the key ingredient separating most club curlers from those playing at a competitive level.

Congratulations to the Harvey Meller team from VCC that won the bronze medal in the BC Seniors Games men's curling event at Coquitlam. There were six zones from around the province represented in the event, which was won by the Kevin Jeannotte team from Langley.
