Team Schneider tops Marpole field

From Curl BC news (Dec. 2, 2013):

Stephen Schneider heads into the Lower Mainland men’s playdowns this weekend at Royal City with a boost of confidence after winning the Marpole Sportsmen Bonspiel on Dec. 1.

Schneider and his team (featured from L to R: third Shawn Eklund, skip Stephen Schneider, second Brant Amos, lead Dwight Tomalty) won the A final over Mike Moss from Richmond.

The A final was a tight back and forth game. Schneider was one down with hammer coming home and took two points for a 5-4 win when Moss drew heavy on a freeze attempt.

Also this past weekend, Team Gibson won the 2013-14 BC Women's Open Event #2 A Pool and will be representing the VCC at the Women's Provincial's this year. Team Forrest from the VCC also made the semi-finals of the A pool. Check out Curl BC for more information on the remaining tour dates.

*NEW* 8 Week Learn To Curl Program

Learn about curling in a small group with a dedicated coach!

Starting January 8th, we will be running an eight-week introductory program for beginners looking to learn about all aspects of the game. You will be placed in a small group of eight curlers and paired with an experienced coach for a series of eight weeks. Start out learning the basics of throwing rocks and progress to sweeping, team communication and game strategy! The eight weeks will comprise of on-ice instruction (60%), off-ice strategy talk (10%), and mini game time (30%).

Congratulations to Team Switzer and Team Gibson

The two VCC teams competing at national championships have seen their weeks come to an end, but we are so proud of their efforts over the past week as they took on the rest of the country.

TEAM SWITZER (pictured below L to R: skip Keith Switzer, third Sandra Comadina, second Leonard Firkus and lead Carman Cheng) wrapped up their time at the 2014 Canadian Mixed Curling Championships in Ottawa on Thursday evening.

Competing as Team BC, one of their highlights during the event was defeating the defending national champions from Ontario. They wrapped up the 2014 Canadian Mixed Championships in 10th place.

TEAM GIBSON (pictured below L to R: skip Amy Gibson, fourth Rebecca Turley, second Michelle Dunn and lead Marilou Richter) put up a valiant effort in Thunder Bay as Team BC at the 2013 Dominion Curling Club Championships.

They finished in a tie for third in their pool, with only the top two teams moving on to the playoffs. Manitoba went through undefeated but Team Gibson beat the second place team from the Yukon. They then had a couple of very close games against New Brunswick and Alberta, whereby the game against second place Alberta go down to the wire whereby Alberta's final and winning rock was heavy but got a tick from an outside rock to roll towards the button.

Congratulations to both teams for representing the province and the Club with pride. If you would like to check out the game scores and more for both events, please click here (and select either '2014 Canadian Mixed' or 'Women-Dominion Curling' from the drop down menu on the left side of the page).
