Try curling at VCC

If you want to try curling to see if you might like it then join us for the Try Curling Event coming up on Saturday, Jan. 12. For only $5 you can try curling for an hour with equipment and instruction included.

There is also a Senior Men's 55+ Try Curling Event on Thursday, Jan. 10 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

VCC curler comes close at Pacific Asia Championship

Chinese Taipei curling team

The Chinese Taipei team (Taiwan) has finished with a 4-4 record at the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships in Korea, one spot back of a playoff spot and a chance to qualify for the world championship. The team included Thursday Open League curler Nick Hsu (second from the right) at third. VCC junior program head coach Brad Burton coached the Chinese Taipei team.

2018 Harvest Bonspiel

THE HARVEST IS DONE FOR ANOTHER YEAR

The 2018 Harvest Bonspiel saw fantastic curling in the house of VCC.

A weekend of awesome curling, Halloween hi-jinx and curling camaraderie all started on Friday and culminated in the crowning of a new victor on Sunday.

VCC Brazilians in World Mixed Curling Championship

The Winn Rentals World Mixed Curling Championship ran Oct. 13-20 in Kelowna with a VCC team taking part! The Brazilian team, left to right, is lead Erick Santos, second Luciana Barrella, third Claudio Alves and skip Anne Shibuya. Anne's husband, Matthew Gervan, coached the team. 

Lessons available with high performance coaches

For high performance coaching, VCC now offers lessons with level 3 certified coaches Robbie Gallaugher and Heather Beatty. Heather is a former high performance and competitions manager at Curl BC, and has competed at multiple women's and mixed provincial championships. Robbie has coached internationally and competed in men's and mixed provincial champioinships. Both Robbie and Heather teaching coaching courses for Curl BC. New executive elected

We have a new executive elected after the first board meeting since the AGM. With Brent Forbes ending his term as president, former vice-president Ron McKay is now the president. Jim Carpick has become vice-president, Colin Chan is treasurer and Mathew Brownell is secretary. The other directors are Rick Feeney, Doug Macdonald, Craig Coyne, Brock Endean, Luke Opacic, Heather Hansen, Lindsay Hudyma and Floyd Bardell.

Brad Burton (right) received the VCC volunteer-of-the-year award Sept. 4 at the AGM from President Brent Forbes. Brad has been the long-time head coach of the VCC junior program on Saturdays. Brad is generous with his knowledge and experience in the sport, always willing to teach and help people get better, no matter what their current skill level.

World's oldest curler turns 100!

The world's oldest active curler, VCC member Lola Holmes, turned 100 years old on Sunday, Sept. 16. She held a party for family and friends at VCC on the day, and then celebrated again on her first day of curling, Monday, Sept. 24 with the Vancouver Ladies' League.
