Lounge Manager

The Vancouver Curling Club (VCC), located in the Hillcrest Centre recreational complex, offers a unique opportunity for the right candidate to join an innovative team dedicated to operating a world-class curling facility.

The VCC is a nonprofit association committed to the development of its more than 1,100 members and thousands of annual visitors/guests through the provision of high quality on-ice and off-ice experiences and learning opportunities. The combined efforts and dedication of staff, volunteers and elected Board members result in a warm and welcoming atmosphere in a state-of-the-art facility, a legacy of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The VCC is currently seeking a Lounge Manager to prepare and serve food and beverage, in addition to overseeing the day to day administration of the Lounge. Total hours per week: 30 hours, Sunday through Friday, and as required for special events on Saturday. Position to start immediately until the end of April 2015.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Lounge Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of the VCC Lounge, its business performance, administration (ordering, inventory, management of POS system, weekly sales and profitability reports and analysis) as well as maintaining high standards of food, service, health and safety. In addition, the Lounge Manager ensures lounge servers provide efficient and friendly service to the members and guests of the Vancouver Curling Club.

Bartending, cooking experience and Serving It Right are required. As well as minimum three years of restaurant management experience. Compensation is $15.00 per hour in addition to tips.

Administration Coordinator

The VCC is currently seeking a full-time Administration Coordinator to start immediately for an annual term: September to mid-May.

As the Administration Coordinator (AC) your role is central in overseeing the financial operations of the Vancouver Curling Club.  Your Bookkeeping responsibilities will include processing accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, preparing sales tax returns, processing payroll, and generating month end financial statements. In addition, the AC supports the Senior Administration team with effective development processes, communication practices, organized filing systems (both hard copy and digital) and responding to VCC member’s inquiries.  As the Administrative Coordinator you will be available to work occasional weekends and evenings.

As the ideal candidate you will possess a University degree or college diploma, preferably with emphasis on financial management. Professional experience with retail and membership based organizations is an asset, but not required.  You will have a minimum of five years of bookkeeping and financial reporting experience, general understanding of GST and PST, knowledge of QuickBooks and payroll systems.  In addition, you have a proven level of professionalism, attention to detail, multi-tasking and problem solving capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adjust to the changing needs of the organization. 

This is a 3-4 day per week position, with compensation to be determined based on experience.

Future Opportunities

The Club generally posts here for its annual hourly staff team that help operate the Last Draw Lounge and the Ice Shed. All of our team is currently in place for the 2014-2015 season, but short summaries of the positions are posted below:

Lounge Servers

Reporting to the Manager of Membership Services, the Lounge Servers will be responsible to tend the bar, prepare meals, maintain the cleanliness of the Last Draw Lounge and kitchen, and maintain a key focus on membership satisfaction.

Junior Ice Technicians

Working with the Ice Shed Manager, the Junior Ice Technicians are responsible for the day-to-day preparation of the curling ice as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the Club during their working hours. Junior Ice Techs also help out in the lounge or Pro Shop if needed and assist the Ice Shed Manager with regularly scheduled ice maintenance.
