Getting Started at the VCC

"How can I learn about curling?"

"How much does it cost to curl at the Vancouver Curling Club?"

  • The cost to curl is determined by the respective leagues.
  • Check out VCC Leagues for contact info for all the leagues at the VCC.

"What should I wear to curl? What type of equipment do I need to get started?"

  • Curling equipment consists of shoes and brooms. Wear clean, flat-soled shoes and layered, loose clothing.
  • New curlers can use a rubber gripper that fits over shoes to provide better traction on the ice.
  • Rental brooms are available in the ice shed by donation ($2+ suggested donation per use).

"How can I improve my game?"

  • Open Ice is scheduled practice time dedicated for VCC members only. Click here for Open Ice practice times.
  • The VCC offers curling lessons and clinics throughout the year. Click here for more info.
  • The VCC can pair you/your team with an experienced coach for one-on-one advice, who can provide advice and guidance on strategy, equipment, technique, etc. and help teams feel welcome. Email Richard at msc@vancurl.com if you would like to be paired with a mentor or be a mentor.

"Are bonspiels only for expert curlers?"

  • Most bonspiels offered by the VCC or individual leagues are open to all skill levels, and perfect for new players to meet new friends.
